Proper care for your custom knife is of utmost importance. Dreck Metal (at this time) does not create stainless steel knives and are focused primarily on high carbon steels. Owning high carbon blades means that if you do not provide basic care for them you may risk compromising the look or integrity of the piece.

If cared for properly, high carbon knives should not only last you forever but should also hold an edge longer and require less sharpening than some market saturated stainless steel blades. We like to think of them in the same regard as cast iron skillets. We love our cast iron skillets and use them weekly along side our teflon skillets, but it's no secret that you can't leave one wet or unattended to. We routinely wash our skillets and immediately dry and wipe them down with oil to keep them fresh. You could apply the same routine with high carbon knives. When using high carbon knives we, at the very least, wipe them dry as soon as we are done using them to avoid altering the patina and potentially developing rust. We also keep a liberal amount of mineral oil around because it is good for the entirety of the knife, including both the blade and the handle material.

Buying a knife like this is an investment in art, tool, and overall uniqueness in product. Dreck Metal knives will quite literally never be duplicated even if we try to... it's just the nature of making custom knives by hand, one at a time. If you have any further questions feel free to contact us or try a simple google search about knife care. Thank you!
